5-Year LLB or 3-Year LLB in Kerala: Which Should You Choose?
Updated 2 November 2026 by the faculty of Mentors Law Entrance Coaching Centre, Ernakulam. Rules can change every year – confirm in the KLEE 2027 prospectus at cee.kerala.gov.in.
Both routes lead to the same LLB degree and the same right to enrol as an advocate. The difference is when you start, how long it takes and how hard it is to get a government seat.

Choose the 5-year LLB if…
- You are in Plus Two and already sure about law – you save a year.
- You want an integrated BA, BBA or B.Com degree alongside law, with a full five years of moots, internships and clinics.
- You are also writing CLAT, AILET or CUSAT CAT – the same preparation serves all of them.
Choose the 3-year LLB if…
- You are a graduate, or you want a degree in another subject first (commerce, science, engineering) and then law – useful for corporate, tax, IP or cyber law.
- You are a working professional or older – there is no age limit.
- You want a better chance at a government seat: in 2026 there were about 6 ranked candidates per Government Law College seat in the 3-year LLB, compared with about 12 in the 5-year LLB.
The exam is the same
Both courses use the same KLEE pattern: 120 questions, 2 hours, +3/−1, and the same four sections. Our previous papers include both 3-year and 5-year papers from 2024 to 2026, and the mock tests suit both.
