How to Prepare for KLEE 2027

Written by the faculty of Mentors Law Entrance Coaching Centre, Ernakulam. Updated November 2026.

1. Start with the actual papers

Solve the KLEE 2024, 2025 and 2026 papers first. They show the real level of the exam, which is lower than CLAT and very predictable: the same 36–27–15–42 section split every year.

2. General English (36 questions)

  • Learn 10 new words a day with their synonyms and antonyms, and note commonly misspelled words – about 40% of the section is vocabulary.
  • Revise prepositions, direct–indirect speech, tenses and subject–verb agreement for error spotting.
  • Practise PQRS rearrangement by finding the opening part first.

3. General Knowledge (27 questions)

  • Give Kerala extra time: renaissance leaders, rivers, districts, festivals, state schemes and portals.
  • Read the news daily and keep a one-page monthly note of awards, sports, appointments and schemes.
  • Cover basic science (vitamins, diseases, planets) and Indian and world geography.

4. Arithmetic & Mental Ability (15 questions)

  • Questions are school-level. Master percentage, profit and loss, averages, ratio, time and work, interest and the number system.
  • Practise coding-decoding, directions and statement–conclusion questions – they are quick marks.
  • Study the solved previous questions for the methods we use in class.

5. Aptitude for Legal Studies (42 questions)

  • Read the Indian Constitution basics: important Articles, Parliament, President, judiciary, elections and emergency provisions.
  • Build a notebook of legal terms, Latin maxims and abbreviations – they appear every year.
  • Learn the new criminal laws (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam) and the laws they replaced.
  • Follow legal news: new Chief Justices, important judgments and new Acts.

6. Handle negative marking

A wrong answer costs 1 mark, a right answer gains 3. If you can rule out two options, guessing between the remaining two is usually worth it; a blind guess is not. Take full-length timed tests and track your accuracy, not just your attempts.

7. A simple timeline

PeriodFocus
December – FebruaryConcepts in all four sections, daily vocabulary and news
March – AprilPrevious papers section by section, Kerala GK, legal terms notebook
Last 6–8 weeksOne full-length timed mock every 2–3 days, analysis and revision

Frequently asked questions

How can I prepare for KLEE in 6 months?

Spend the first months on concepts and daily vocabulary and news, then solve previous papers section by section, and take regular full-length timed mocks in the last 6 to 8 weeks.

Which section is most important in KLEE?

Aptitude for Legal Studies (42 questions) and General English (36 questions) together make up 65% of the paper.

Is KLEE tougher than CLAT?

KLEE is generally easier and more direct than CLAT. Questions are short and factual rather than long passages, but negative marking means accuracy is important.
