Can Commerce, Humanities or Science Students Write KLEE?
Updated 2 November 2026 by the faculty of Mentors Law Entrance Coaching Centre, Ernakulam. Rules can change every year – confirm in the KLEE 2027 prospectus at cee.kerala.gov.in.
Short answer: yes. The KLEE 5-year LLB is open to students who have passed Plus Two (Higher Secondary) or an equivalent exam in any stream – Science, Commerce or Humanities. The 2026 rules did not list a separate stream requirement for BA LLB, BBA LLB or B.Com LLB.
Minimum Plus Two marks
| Category | Minimum marks in Plus Two |
|---|---|
| General | 45% |
| SEBC | 42% |
| SC / ST | 40% |
Students who are in their final year of Plus Two can apply, as long as they pass with the required marks before admission. For the 3-year LLB, a bachelor's degree in any subject with the same percentages is needed.
Does my stream decide which LLB course I get?
No. Each Government Law College runs one 5-year course – for example, Government Law College, Ernakulam offers B.Com LLB (Hons) and Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram offers BA LLB. Seats are allotted by KLEE rank and your options, not by your Plus Two subject. See the colleges and seats.
Which stream has an advantage in the exam?
KLEE does not test Plus Two subjects. The paper is the same for everyone: 36 English, 27 General Knowledge, 15 Arithmetic & Mental Ability and 42 Legal Aptitude questions (pattern).
- Science students usually find the 15 arithmetic questions easy, but must build reading speed and legal awareness.
- Commerce students are comfortable with percentages, profit and loss and interest – a big part of the arithmetic section.
- Humanities students often have an edge in reading, history and polity, which helps in GK and Legal Aptitude.
What decides the rank is not the stream but English and Legal Aptitude – together they carry 78 of the 120 questions.
Diploma (polytechnic) holders
The Bar Council of India has updated its rules to accept a 3-year diploma after Class 10 for 5-year LLB admission. Whether KLEE accepts it in a given year depends on the CEE prospectus – check the eligibility clause, or ask CEE Kerala before applying.
