KLEE Tie-Breaking Rule: Who Ranks Higher When Marks Are Equal?

Updated 2 November 2026 by the faculty of Mentors Law Entrance Coaching Centre, Ernakulam. Rules can change every year – confirm in the KLEE 2027 prospectus at cee.kerala.gov.in.

Thousands of candidates write KLEE, so many end up with the same total. CEE Kerala breaks such ties using a fixed order, published with the rank list.

The tie-breaking order

  1. The candidate with higher marks in Aptitude for Legal Studies gets the higher rank.
  2. If still tied, the candidate with higher marks in General English ranks higher.
  3. If still tied, the older candidate ranks higher.

This order has been reported for KLEE in recent years (2022–2024). Confirm it in the KLEE 2027 prospectus or rank list notification.

What this means for your preparation

  • Legal Aptitude counts twice. It is already the biggest section – 42 of 120 questions, 126 marks – and it is also the first tie-breaker.
  • English is the second-biggest section and the second tie-breaker. With 36 questions, English and Legal Aptitude together decide most ranks.
  • A tie decides who gets the last seat in a college. At ranks near a Government Law College cut-off, a few marks in Legal Aptitude can mean a different college.

Example

TotalLegal AptitudeEnglishRank
Anu2319678Higher
Rahul2319084Lower

Both scored 231, but Anu has more Legal Aptitude marks, so she ranks above Rahul even though his English score is higher.
