What KLEE Score Do You Need for a Government Law College?

Seats are allotted by rank, not marks. So the useful question is: what rank gets a Government Law College seat, and roughly what score gives that rank? Here are the latest available last ranks and what they mean in marks.
Last ranks – 5-year LLB (2025, first allotment)
| College / course | State Merit (SM) | Ezhava (EZ) | Muslim (MU) | SC | ST | EWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram – BA LLB | 239 | 409 | 474 | 1,009 | 3,078 | 1,224 |
| Govt. Law College, Ernakulam – B.Com LLB (Hons) | 148 | 250 | 263 | 680 | 2,005 | 482 |
| Govt. Law College, Kozhikode – BBA LLB (Hons) | 368 | 458 | 486 | 1,110 | 3,268 | 1,750 |
| Govt. Law College, Thrissur – BBA LLB (Hons) | 361 | 503 | 489 | 885 | 2,191 | 730 |
Last rank = rank of the last candidate allotted a seat in that category in the first allotment. Later phases usually go a little further. Other community quotas are in the full CEE list.
Last ranks – 3-year LLB (2025, first allotment)
| College / course | State Merit (SM) | Ezhava (EZ) | Muslim (MU) | SC | ST | EWS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Govt. Law College, Thiruvananthapuram | 138 | 242 | 250 | 316 | 252 | 691 |
| Govt. Law College, Ernakulam | 184 | 297 | 307 | 534 | 1,161 | 960 |
| Govt. Law College, Kozhikode | 285 | 507 | 494 | 730 | 2,083 | 1,203 |
| Govt. Law College, Thrissur | 286 | 524 | 477 | 963 | 1,915 | 1,281 |
What marks does that mean?
Marks needed for a given rank change every year with the difficulty of the paper. Using Careers360's 2026 marks-vs-rank analysis as an approximate guide:
| Course | Rank | Approx. marks (out of 360) |
|---|---|---|
| 5-year LLB | around 150 | 240–250 |
| 5-year LLB | around 250 | 230–240 |
| 5-year LLB | around 370 | 220–230 |
| 3-year LLB | around 140–190 | 200–210 |
| 3-year LLB | around 290 | 180–190 |
So, in a paper like 2026, a general-merit candidate should aim for roughly 230+ in the 5-year LLB and 190+ in the 3-year LLB for a Government Law College, with lower targets in community and reserved quotas. Self-financing colleges close much later – for example, Sree Narayana Law College, Poothotta closed at state-merit ranks of about 900–1,100 for its 5-year courses in 2025.

| Average score | 143.83 | 123.87 |

With about 4,500 ranked candidates for 360 government 5-year seats, a Government Law College seat in state merit means finishing roughly in the top 3–8% (2025 state-merit last ranks were 148–368). The 2026 paper was easier than 2025 – the provisional topper's score rose from about 319 to 335 – so treat marks targets as a range and aim for rank.
